What to Expect

New Client Paperwork

Please fill out all forms completely prior to your first appointment. Paperwork will be emailed to you upon referral, or you can stop by the office to pick up prior to your appointment.

What to Bring

Bring photo identification and your insurance card as this is required at the first appointment. Please note consents and information on what to expect while you are receiving counseling services.

First Visit

Please arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment to complete information forms and make copies of required documents. This will help the therapist start the session on time. The therapist will meet with you for approximately 50-55 minutes. At this first session you will be asked questions to clarify your current situation and past history. The therapist will discuss options with you. This is a chance to tell the therapist about you and your concerns. The first session is also a time for you to make sure you feel like your therapist is a good fit for you.

Confidentiality

Elevate Counseling and Consulting has a strict confidentiality policy and will not release information regarding contact with you without specific permission from you. If a client wants the therapist to speak with a medical provider, teacher, school staff, spouse/partner, or parent, etc., they will have you sign a release of information.

The exception is when mandatory reporting is required and that will be discussed in the session if a report is needed.

Number of Sessions

The length of time you need to engage in therapy and how often you attend sessions will be influenced by many factors including the nature of your specific challenges and how you address them, ongoing life changes, your schedule, therapist availability and personal finances.  You and your therapist will continually assess the appropriate frequency of therapy and will work together to determine when you have met your goals and are ready for discharge.  Frequency can be adjusted at any time based on progress.  Therapy may be brief for you, several months or a long term decision based on your needs

Session Length

Session length will be determined by you and your therapist based on your needs, scheduling availability and insurance coverage.  Please plan your initial appointment being around an hour.  Your therapist will discuss the length and frequency of following sessions during your first appointment.

Rescheduling

You are asked that you make every attempt to cancel 24 hours ahead of your scheduled appointment time. Your therapist will be happy to schedule you for a better time, and understand cancellation is needed at times. If you cancel the day of the session you may be charged a fee according to the policy of your therapist.  If you do not show for your appointment you may be charged for your appointment at the full cost of the session, which you will be responsible for paying. If you cancel three times in a row or no show two times in a row you will be removed from the schedule until a plan can be made for future services. Please understand therapists can have many clients to serve in a day.

Medications

Our therapists are unable to prescribe medications. They work with many physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in the Kearney area to discuss and refer for these types of needs for clients. They are able to discuss options for whom you may want to attend a medication evaluation within your community.

Online Options

Most of our providers are comfortable conducting services over a HIPAA compliant video service. They will need to ensure your insurance and other requirements are met before we can schedule. We ask that you meet with your therapist for an initial session to start.

Emotional Support Animals

We believe animals are great companions and can be beneficial in coping with emotional distress, however, due to liability issues, it is our policy that we DO NOT provide letters approving emotional support animals. We also ask that you do not bring your animals to the office unless it is a service animal. We understand your animals may be comforting to you, but animals can be distressing or pose health risks to others you may encounter in the common spaces at Elevate Counseling and Consulting, LLC and it is important for us to create an environment that is safe and welcoming for everyone here.  Please let your therapist or the front desk know if you will have a service animal attending sessions with you so accommodations can be made.
